Have you ever wondered which watch and NATO watch strap James Bond is wearing in your favourite movie? Well wonder no more! We got you covered in this in-depth article on everything you need to know about James Bond watches and the James Bond NATO Strap.
The following is a comprehensive list of James Bond watches. The James Bond franchise has a long history of putting sophisticated horology on the big screen, from Sean Connery's Rolex Submariner through Daniel Craig's Omega Planet Ocean or Seamaster (called the "Casino Royale" watches). Today, we honour that legacy by compiling a comprehensive catalog of all 007 watches.
It's no coincidence that popular brands like Omega, Seiko, and Rolex will appear frequently. Omega has been an official franchise partner since 1995, and it has periodically released limited edition Bond watches for sale.We discussed one only a few weeks ago.
Nevertheless, you might be curious as to what type of watch Daniel Craig will be sporting in the new Bond film "No Time to Die." We can't say for sure, but we have a feeling it'll be an Omega Seamaster of some kind—call it a hunch.
Every wristwatch worn by James Bond may be recognised from Spectre and Doctor No, as well as most other Bond movies. Given the fact that some of these movies aren't up to today's standards, every 007 film is a work of art which will never be out of date. If you're not sure, check out our vast collection of James Bond watches.
- Rolex Submariner Ref. 6538 - (Dr. No)
Film: Dr. No
Release Year: 1962
Actor who portrayed James Bond: Sean Connery
Other noteworthy timepieces: Gruen Precision 510
James Bond and Rolex have a long history, dating back to Ian Fleming's first novel, "Casino Royale," in which the famed spy wears the equally famous brand.
Fleming was frequently spotted wearing a Rolex Explorer Reference 1016 on his wrist, indicating that he derived direct inspiration from his own personal interests.
According to folklore, actor Sean Connery, who played Bond for the first time, was also a huge Rolex fan. Connery's Rolex Submariner, which he wore in the first Bond film, is said to have come straight from his personal collection. It was attached to a leather strap and marked the elegant beginning of what would become a legendary partnership.
Bond is shown wearing the soon-to-be-famous Gruen Precision 510 in the first sequence of Dr. No. The watch is barely visible behind the shirt cuff, and while it's more appropriate for a tuxedo than a divers piece, many admirers were left in the dark for years. We couldn't confirm the watch's reference until legendary Bond watch expert Dell Deaton recognised it as a Gruen Precision 510, 40 years after it originally appeared on film.
- Rolex Submariner Ref. 6538 (from Russia with love.)
Film: From Russia with Love
Release Year: 1963
Actor who portrayed James Bond: Sean Connery
For Sean Connery, the reappearance of his Rolex Submariner signaled a new Bond film, new opponents, and new adventures.. This was the first Bond watch that hadn't been turned into a weapon by Q, therefore it only displayed the time on its iconic dial face. This would eventually lead to watches being a vital component of the 007 mythos.
- Rolex Submariner Ref. 6538 - (Goldfinger)
Film: Goldfinger
Release Year: 1964
Actor who portrayed James Bond: Sean Connery
As the saying goes, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it." He and his faithful Rolex Submariner weren't broke at the end of the third 007 film. When Bond displays the watch to the world while wearing his tuxedo sleeve, he solidifies their relationship for all time. The Submariner was now attached to a cloth strap instead of leather. A classic aviation timepiece from Rolex, the Rolex GMT Master Reference 6542, has been worn by Bond girl and notorious Bond femme fatale Pussy Galore (Google it with caution).
An interesting point to note about the watch is it can be seen with a nylon or fabric strap. Rumour is the stainless steel clasp on the Rolex broke during a fight scene so one of the production crew lent Connery a strap to wear. In this scene the Rolex can be clearly seen on the striped strap and the strap is too narrow (possibly 18mm) on the Rolex which is 22mm lug to lug. The strap is remade for today’s Rolex and other dive watches, faithfully reproduced in the same colour but with an option of 20 or 22mm as a Vintage Bond Nato strap.
- Thunderball – Breitling Top Time
Film: Thunderball
Release Year: 1965
Actor who portrayed James Bond: Sean Connery
Other timepieces worn: Rolex Submariner Ref. 6538, Breitling Navitimer Ref. 806
In this fourth film in the series, James Bond and his faithful Submariner are back. The new gadget from Q Branch is a customised Breitling Top Time Chronograph that also serves as a Geiger counter for 007 to enjoy. Who knows when Bond might need to employ the additional feature? In our view, there is absolutely no question that he can accomplish it. In 2013, the same Breitling watch was sold at an English flea market for about $25. The watch was then auctioned for more than £100,000 by the original owner. Cha-ching!
- Rolex GMT Master in (Casino Royale 1967)
Film: Casino Royale
Release Year: 1967
Actor who portrayed James Bond: David Niven
Aside from the fact that Bond is seen wearing a Rolex GMT Master, we'd be tempted to eliminate this shabby pastiche off the list. Rolex may be considered the authentic "Casino Royale" watch based on that and Fleming's original novel, although Omega certainly disagrees.
- Gruen Precision 510 – (“You Only Live Twice”)
Film: You Only Live Twice
Release Year: 1967
Actor who portrayed James Bond: Sean Connery
No one knows for sure what Bond wears on his wrist in this 1967 movie, which features him and ninjas from Japan against SPECTRE and Ernst Stavro Blofeld. Most people think it was a gold Gruen watch that came from Connery's own collection. The Gruen Watch Company was a well-known brand that went out of business in 1977. In 2000, it was bought by a new company.
- Rolex Chronograph Ref. 6238 - (“On Her Majesty's Secret Service”)
Film: On Her Majesty’s Secret Service
Release Year: 1969
Actor who portrayed James Bond: George Lazenby
Other timepieces Worn: Rolex Submariner Ref. 5513 & Rolex Submariner Ref. 6358
George Lazenby wore three distinct Rolex Submariners for his one and only 007 role. The Reference 5513 on an iconic Oystersteel bracelet was the first to be unveiled. Bond then puts a Reference 6358 with an unscrewed crown on a copy machine during a break-in scene. He wears a Reference 6238 later in the film. Hopefully, the actor was able to keep at least one of them., if not all, of those seminal models.
- - Gruen Precision 510, (Diamonds Are Forever.)
Film: Diamonds Are Forever
Release Year: 1971
Actor who portrayed James Bond: Sean Connery
Sean Connery returned as Bond in the seventh movie in the Bond series. The movie had a lot of action and romance. In one scene, a wristwatch does appear. It is almost impossible to tell what kind it is. There are a lot of people who think Connery wore the same gold Gruen watch that he wore in the first movie, Dr. No!
- Rolex Submariner Ref. 5513 & Pulsar LED digital watch - (Live And Let Die)
Film: Live and Let Die
Release Year: 1973
Actor who portrayed James Bond: Roger Moore
A new era began when Roger Moore took on the role of 007 for the first time. It also brought back the classic Rolex Submariner, but with a new twist that has become very well known now. Because of some work by Q and his team, the watch could also be used as a circular saw and a magnet, which helped Bond get out of a few tight spots.
The superspy wears a Hamilton Watch Company Pulsar LED digital watch in the film's opening sequence. To say it was a good public relations move for the burgeoning quartz watch sector is an understatement.
- Rolex Submariner Ref. 5513 - (The Man with the Golden Gun)
Film: The Man with the Golden Gun
Release Year: 1974
Actor who portrayed James Bond: Roger Moore
Rolex Submariner would be the name if the phrase "James Bond Rolex" had another name. In "The Man with the Golden Gun," the model reappears, but without any gimmicks or devices. Nonetheless, it makes a stylish statement.
- Seiko 0674 LC - (The Spy Who Loved Me)
Film: The Spy Who Loved Me
Release Year: 1977
Actor who portrayed James Bond: Roger Moore
OtherTimepieces Worn: Rolex GMT Master
By the mid-to-late 1970s, digital timepieces had become popular, and the Bond series had kept up. In this iconic film, Agent 007 not only wears a rectangular Seiko 0674 LC, but the watch also writes out tiny small notes from a fellow superspy. A Rolex GMT Master, which Bond uses for timekeeping, keeps the analog essence alive.
- Seiko M354 Memory Bank Calendar – (“Moonraker”)
Film: Moonraker
Release Year: 1979
Actor who portrayed James Bond: Roger Moore
It's no wonder that this crazy, space-themed edition of James Bond went all-digital. An explosive charge is hidden on the back of his flashy new Seiko M354 Memory Bank Calendar, which plays a key part in the conclusion. Kaboom!
- Seiko 7549-7009 & Seiko H357 Duo Display - (For Your Eyes Only)
Film: For Your Eyes Only
Release Year: 1981
Actor who portrayed James Bond: Roger Moore
Not one, but two Seiko watches appear in the thirteenth Bond film. The first is a 7549-7009, while the second is an H357 with analog and digital displays. The H357 Duo Display, a predecessor to the wristwatch, sends text-like communications and has a built-in microphone.
- Seiko G757 Sports 100 - (Octopussy)
Film: Octopussy
Release Year 1983
Actor who portrayed James Bond: Roger Moore
Other Timepieces Worn: Seiko TV Watch
A new Seiko watch, equipped with bonus incentives from Q Branch, was released alongside a controversial film title. One of the additional features was the ability to track a tracking device using a digital red dot on the screen. The Seiko G757 Sports 100 was an amazingly effective digital chronograph even without the fancy features
- Never Say Again – Unknown Watch
Film: Never Say Never Again
Release Year: 1983
Actor who portrayed James Bond: Sean Connery
Sean Connery repeated his act as James Bond for the final time, and then stated, "Never again." There was no discernible watch to record the occasion, as remarkable (or unmemorable) as Connery's homecoming may have been. Bummer
- Seiko 6923-8080 SPD09 – (With a View to a Kill)
Film: A View to a Kill
Release Year: 1985
Actor who portrayed James Bond: Roger Moore
Other Timepieces Worn: Seiko SPR007 7A28-7020; Seiko H558-500 SPW001; Rolex Datejust
Actor Roger Moore wears four watches in his final outing as British superspy James Bond. The Seiko SPR007 7A28-7020, a quartz chronograph with a white dial, is one of them. A Seiko H558-500 SPW001 diving watch and a two-tone Seiko 6923-8080 SPD09 watch also make brief cameos. Finally, when Bond realises that his driver has been slain, he is wearing a Rolex Date.
- TAG Heuer Professional Night-Dive Reference 980.031 - (The Living Daylights)
Film: The Living Daylights
Release Year: 1987
Actor who portrayed James Bond: Timothy Dalton
When Timothy Dalton was cast as James Bond in 1987, he beat off Pierce Brosnan, giving the franchise a darker, less comedic tone. Bond wore a TAG Heuer Professional Night-Dive Reference 980.031 quartz dive watch after kissing Seiko goodbye. The watch's brilliant dial stood out against the black body and band.
- Rolex Submariner Ref. 16610 – (Licence to Kill)
Film: Licence to Kill
Release Year: 1989
Actor who portrayed James Bond: Timothy Dalton
For one more adventure, Dalton's second and final appearance as James Bond welcomed Swiss icon Rolex back into the fold. Agent 007 wears a Rolex Submariner to keep up with a legendary heritage (most likely a Reference 16610). After that, both Dalton and Rolex had to say their goodbyes.
- Omega Seamaster Professional 300M Ref. 2541.80 - (GoldenEye)
Film: Goldeneye
Release Year: 1995
Actor who portrayed James Bond: Pierce Brosnan
In the mid-1990s, the James Bond series was resurrected, with Irish actor Pierce Brosnan taking the lead. Brosnan was a solid and dependable pick because of his sharp appearance and cunning personality. The 1995 film "Goldeneye" not only marked the franchise's first appearance, but it also introduced Omega as the franchise's official watch partner. Enter the "Goldeneye" watch, an Omega Seamaster Professional 300M quartz diving watch ref. 2541.80. The Q Branch dressed it up with a laser in the bezel and a built-in detonator, as is customary.
- Omega Seamaster Professional 300M Ref. 2531.80 - (Tomorrow Never Dies)
Film: Tomorrow Never Dies
Release Year: 1997
Actor who portrayed James Bond: Pierce Brosnan
For this 1997 chapter, Pierce Brosnan returned, as did Omega, as Bond faced a power-hungry media magnate. The timepiece of choice was an automated chronometer version of the popular Seamaster, which could launch a hand grenade remotely (thanks, Q!).
- Ref. 2531.80 Omega Seamaster Professional 300M - (The World Is Not Enough)
Film: The World is Not Enough
Release Year: 1999
Actor who portrayed James Bond: Pierce Brosnan
They believe that repetition is vital in marketing, yet who was Omega to think of anything new? As a result, Brosnan wore the identical Omega Seamaster watch as in the last film. The watch, on the other hand, came with some new features, such as an ultra-bright light source and a fast-action grappling hook.
- Omega Seamaster Professional 300M Ref. 2531.80 - (Die Another Day)
Film: Die Another Day
Release Year: 2002
Actor who portrayed James Bond: Pierce Brosnan
If you can get the image of Halle Berry in a bikini out of your head, you'll note that the Omega Seamaster Professional 300M Ref. 2531.80 is returning for Brosnan's last Bond flick.
It's a nod to its gadget-laden predecessor, the blinged-out "Goldeneye" watch.
—this one has a laser and a detonator built-in.
- Omega Seamaster Professional 300M Ref. 2220.80.00 - (Casino Royale)
Film: Casino Royale
Release Year: 2006
Actor who portrayed James Bond: Daniel Craig
Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Ref. 2900.50.91 - Other Watches Worn
It wasn't long until a new Bond was introduced to the public, as well as a new Bond actor to play him. That actor was the uber-serious Daniel Craig, who began the movie by transporting us back to the start of the series' history.. Not one, but two "Casino Royale" timepieces were worn to commemorate the event. The first was a Seamaster Planet Ocean, which Bond wore in the first scene.
He wears an automatic Seamaster with co-axial escapement for the rest of the movie.
- Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Ref. 2201.50.00 - (Quantum of Solace)
Film: Quantum of Solace
Release Year: 2008
Actor who portrayed James Bond: Daniel Craig
The 2008 film "Quantum of Solace," widely regarded as a failure, has fleeting views of an Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean with a stainless steel bracelet. For a watch with 600 meters of water resistance, you'd expect it to get more screen time. However, that's only one of a slew of things the film might have done differently.
- Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean Ref. 232.30.42.21.01.001 - (Skyfall)
Film: Skyfall
Release Year: 2012
Actor who portrayed James Bond: Daniel Craig
Other Timepieces Worn: Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Ref. 231.10.39.21.03.003
In "Skyfall," one of the franchise's highest-rated installments, two separate Omega Seamasters emerge. Bond wears a Planet Ocean 600M with a one-of-a-kind titanium case in the opening sequences. Fun fact: at Christie's "50 Years of Bond" auction, that same watch sold for slightly under 200,000 Euros. An Aqua Terra with a gorgeous blue dial and stainless steel strap was the other variant.
- Omega Seamaster 300 Ref. 233.32.31.41.21.01.001 - (Spectre)
Film: Spectre
Release Year: 2015
Actor who portrayed James Bond: Daniel Craig
Other Timepieces Worn: Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra Ref. 231.10.42.221.03.001
Daniel Craig gets his first tricked-out Omega Seamaster 300 in 2015's "Spectre," thanks to Q Branch. The watch has a NATO strap and is outfitted with explosive capabilities, and it was created specifically for the film. Although Bond first wears an Aqua Terra model with a black dial in the film, it is the Seamaster that has come to be associated with the movie. Omega created a Limited Edition "Spectre" Seamaster 300 to establish their point. This one, luckily (or regrettably, depending on who you ask), does not double as a bomb but does come with a black and grey Bond Nato strap.
- Omega Seamaster Diver 300 Ref. 233.32.31.41.21.01.001 - (No time to die)
Film: No time to die
Release Year: 2021
Actor who portrayed James Bond: Daniel Craig
Other Timepieces Worn: On-screen, fans can spot three OMEGA watches worn by the movie heroes. James Bond (Daniel Craig) wears the lightweight Seamaster Diver 300M 007 Edition, which is packed with innovation and style. New agent Nomi (Lashana Lynch) wears a 38mm Seamaster Aqua Terra with a black dial and black NATO strap, and Moneypenny (Naomie Harris) is equipped with a 27.4mm De Ville Prestige on a hunter green leather strap.
Daniel Craig returns to the 007 role for his last outing and possibly James Bond's last outing too…?
In arguably the finest and longest of Craig’s Bond movies he sports an Omega Seamaster Diver 300 Metres.
The watch can be seen in several scenes during the film and Bond can be seen wearing the Omega with both the titanium mesh bracelet which comes as standard with the watch as well as the NATO Strap in vintage Bond colours in other scenes.
